Grant & Mary Feb.14, 1999 Alike in terms their genesis: Conceived in love and hope. His youth includes a broken home, with which he's forced to cope. Both third-in-line with older bros., they learn to fight and share. The competition's always tough - and never is it fair! Whate'er they lack in size and strength, they make up for in wit; They learn, and borrow, from the rest, with will to 'never quit!' In skill and confidence they grow, with spirits heard to sing; She ascends to "Lady Fair!" He claims the right of "King!" They maintain grit and attitude, but now among their peers. Competing is on level ground: no limits - and no fears. Now every measured stride they take is greater than the last: If academic, craft or sport; it's studied, learned and passed. To crest the mountains ever new, begets mature control; As structured plans are needed - to seize a common goal. The future is their making; not scripted or die-cast; And "coloring-inside-the-lines": just precepts from the past. It's just their imagination, that will limit what they do; Resourcefulness and moxie - will keep those borders few. When dragons-confrontational attempt to block the way... Their keen communication skills - will keep the beasts at bay. I have only Love and Wisdom, that I can pass along; A lot of Love - a small advise - with which I close this song: "For every pound of Love you spend, a pound (or more) comes back: A resource you can ne'er use up; nor for it - ever lack!" |
Additional Notes:
Written for my youngest son and his bride-to-be, on the occasion of their
engagement - two years ago today.
Happy Valentine's Day to them - and to all of you as well.
