King of the Air

There once was a cat with a special ability, On tables and counters he'd leap with agility. While kitties less nimble might spring to a chair, Might leap to a couch, might simply dispair, This particular feline with aerial flair, With both paws wide open, not mussing a hair, Could sail through space, landing just any place, In no uncertain terms he was King of the Air Now the favorite trick of this atmosphere swimmer, Was to leap to the stove and there oversee dinner. One evening his mistress while cooking a stew, Discovered him missing. Oh my, what to do? She searched high and low, but found not a hair Of that lithe acrobat, he just wasn't there! then she thought of the stewpot she'd left quite uncovered. To the kitchen she ran. What would be discovered? Well, she stirred and she poked with a big cooking fork. In horror she tested the veggies and pork. She heard from the cupboard a furious "meeyuu"-- She opened the door, and out kitty flew! That night our brave puss ate a wonderful feast, And was feted and fondled beyond all belief. His faults were forgiven, his plate polished clean; Next day he was given his own trampoline!
