I Answered the Call

The Freedom Bird has brought me back to the States.      Dying in "the Nam" was not to be my fate. I'm tired, anxious, and scared.      Things have changed since I left here. We touch down at Sea-Tac.      The plane rolls across the cold tarmac. The door opens and it's time to deplane.      I realize I'm no longer the same. People shaking their fists with angry shouts.      I've served my country, what's this about? Who are these people? Don't they understand?      I've done my duty in a hostile distant land! I am angry and at the same time hurt.      I've shed my blood on Vietnam dirt! They sat on the couch and watched it on TV.      While I fought to stop the communists, I wanted to believe! My Nation's Flag of red, white and blue,      I answered the call for people like you? Don't tell me going to fight was wrong,      Those willing to sacrifice keep this nation strong! Protests. Peace signs. Wear your beads.  I pray the enemy doesn't knock on your door.      You never knew this country is worth dying for! When you're left locked behind the enemy's bars,      You are downfall of this great country of ours!
