An Offering of Friendship I'll put on the armor of the Lord today And go into the world where Satan plays I expect to bump into him along the way For he's directs traffic there everyday But I must go back and I pray I won't fail As I search for you on the bondage trail I was in most of the places where I might find you Then God sent a stranger who became a friend true You may be at the junction of right and wrong Debating on which side of life you belong Or perhaps at the corner of pain and sorrow Trying to find a reason to live for tomorrow I'll keep my eyes open on the bridge of despair If you've run out of hope, you'll probably be there As I go through the toll booth on Blame Avenue You may be collecting the guilt you think is overdue I'll crash Satan's parties all over the city I remember the password, it's always "self pity" Or you may be crawling through the park of Shame Trying to feed the animals some of your blame Or I may find you crying in memory lane Reliving the scenes that caused your pain Perhaps I'll catch up to you on heartbreak hill As you wonder if life is worth living...still I'll cruise up and down unforgivable lake Your may be there drowning in bitterness and hate Or I may be chasing you down depression alley Before you see arrows pointing towards Death Valley I'll search everywhere hoping I won't find you there But if you're on Satan's turf, I'm a friend who cares You can't make it alone living in Lucifer's town For when the rent is due, he won't fool around I'm not seeking you out for my own selfish gain And I'm not saying that I can cast out your pain I just come with an offer to to be your friend With a shoulder to cry on and an ear to bend You see I once was here in this terrible place The pain you are wearing was once on my face God sent me a friend when I hurt like you do And maybe you'll come back as a friend too |
Additional Notes:
This poem describes exactly how I feel about being a friend to someone in need.
I tried to make it rhyme for easy reading and at the same time have it make
sense as it is a serious subject. Everyone needs a friend!
