It's Here!

Today the morning murmmered a hushed excitement. Some thrilling event had transpired. I looked around. The roadside was blanketed in copper colored flames, wet pine needles painted vibrant by the rain. It  had rained...? Not an extraordinary event  in this place,  so near the Louisiana swamplands. As I trotted with my dogs I breathed in gulps of air cleaned by the rain fresh and sweet. Thoughts of "to do's" for the day busied my mind. Then I stopped short and I saw it. All along the canefield Delicate as snowflakes Soft, round blossoms looking like popcorn strewn generously for bird and beast. Blackberry blossoms! Everywhere! promising sweet amethyst fruit. I turned and ran,  dogs in pursuit unaware of anything but the chase. There, the azalea bushes  that welcome visitors to my home  were in full bud.   A few brave blossoms opened cautiously peeping out to see if the world was ready for them. I spun and saw the evidence everywhere; now. Now I heard the opera in the treetops. Now I knew. Last night's rain, like a triumphant parade had ushered in the Spring!!!
