The Betrayal

She trusted him. He was her Daddy. I only wish I could have known. Her every whim... He was her caddy, Toting her 'round without a groan. She grew up fast; Was his pride and joy. His feelings grew like a cancer. The role he cast Would only destroy. There was no cure and no answer. She was naive, And I was so blind. I'm not sure which is more tragic. He did deceive; toyed with her young mind. You might think he used black magic. Her innocence... So lost now, she felt. It wasn't fair the price she paid. Where is the sense? And where is the guilt? Am I betrayer or betrayed?

Additional Notes:
This poem is wrtten from the perspective of the mother of an abused child. She is battling feelings of guilt for not somehow knowing the abuse was happening along with feelings of having been betrayed by her husband. She's asking herself Am I the betrayer or the betrayed.
