Deadly Destructive Trap

We can't sweep away this garbage. The stink is far to bad. The man who was our protector. Was a perp that we called dad. There's no easy way around it. We're no longer his little girl. But the cobwebs will not go away And the deadly spiders twirl. A wicked web they are weaving, A deadly, destructive trap. Began on a day like all others, When he sat us upon his lap. He used our trust as a weapon. Said he loved us, when lust was his game. The scars he left upon our soul, Kept us silent and full of shame. He made our lives a shambles, Taught us how not to trust And the hinges that hold our heart in place, Are creaky and covered in rust. Now if we let him live here, In our heads, you know, rent free. The shame and fear will destroy us, The others, my friend, you and me. For we must be a survivor, As you can see, we're still here. But we struggle each day, to drive this away. The purpose in all this, unclear. We refuse to allow him to own us, The pain and the work is bad. But the pain of being in bondage, Is much worse, because he was our dad.

Additional Notes:
This is a very personal witness to a crime that was committed. If some find it too personal or offensive, I can attest it is both. Poetry for me is a way to put into the format of words, my experiences in this life. I grow from it, I heal from it. If you are confused about the mix of plural and singular, it is no mistake. Victims of childhood sexual abuse often become seperated from their experience. This is a method of comparmentalizing that which is too painful to carry. This is called dissociation. One personality, the holder of the pain takes over, until that which has split is able to unify as one. In many cases, this never ocurrs.
