Cinderella's Cousin

What if Of all the characters You resemble most An evil stepsister Ugly, feet too big Older but not wiser Pampered Selfish What if You were destined To go to the ball And be overlooked Again and again And even though mother Adores you Others don't What if You are one of The dwarfs Unoriginal, a duplicate One of many An action Or emotion Grumpy, sleepy What if The mirror ignores you One of a kingdom, unnoticed Forgettable, forgotten It wouldn't matter You are neither Hanzel nor Gretel You are the kid before Already digested What if For you there isn't A prince charming No white horse, no sunset No smash single Best seller Swimming pool Nobel prize What if  You stayed a puppet Didn't prick your finger Didn't warrant a curse No fairy godmother No poison apple Less than three wishes An old dusty lamp What if It wasn't your story But the one before The one after And no one cared An unmarked grave An extra A spare What if Your biggest crime Mediocrity Makes you Always Almost Constatly Nearly What if It is not a struggle To the top But a snuggling in You run out of goodness Groceries and Gas He's lazy Kid's crying A wave of gray days Washing you under What if You discover  Your own thunder Mighty in spite No spotlight Both better And worse Not cursed Not cursing
