Sugar Maple's Song

The fresh green leaf's descent was senseless  no breeze shoved away her grasp of branch a wilted lover said "it's time" and so she jumped She should have stayed claiming her small attachment to the branch  stayed until the last strong gust of autumn danced her to an island far from wormwood   but she chose to jump She now lies under bare branches all her greenery a mildewed heap her premature decay   predictable as Spring she should have  wanted more I think
