Best Defense

If we attach a name and horns and tail, And post up signs of warning to beware, Would it not grow and temper with belief? Or will believing warriors prevail? Do we with fear appoint it to a throne, And serve on silver tray each act of pride, Each blunder, each mistake as roasted meat, And goblets of accusing tears we’ve cried? But if we will not recognize it’s face, And chuckling at such folly, turn away, Would turning wind up all it’s webs of power? Or would our backs salute it’s holiday? The tending to the evil in ourselves, The nurturing of children, cold and lost, Could these be tools to view the beast unmasked? Our best defense against a holocaust?
