Easter Butterfly

A butterfly landed on me today... she clung to my shoulder as if longing to stay The message that she seemed to say... "I'm going home without delay." But into the air I released her to fly... hoping she'd flutter into the sky. Yet she turned around before my eyes... I'll always wonder if she knew that she would die.  As I placed her gently on a branch... her wings beat slowly a death dance. To Fly I gave her every chance... please be gone when next I glance. One last look, I thought I'd take. Oh' please be gone for heaven's sake! Then I felt my heart would break... Had she invited me to her wake? To my shoulder again she flew... God, I don't know what to do. Lord, to me this all is knew... Why must she die, I'm asking You. As her wings came to their final rest... I heard God speak and felt His breath Behold this creature whom I blessed... for there is a reason for her death. The message He wants me to retain... is that all things made are His to claim. And when to ressurection I shall come... I'm going to be with His' own Son     But this message isn't just for me... that's why I write, for all to see. In a world where many doubt and few believe... God seems to work mysteriously Her beauty was her treasure chest... entrusted to me, her form will rest. She's now inside a picture frame... and on her wings, I see God's name. This story is true as is told... many added years make it old. Perhaps a coincidence you may say... That it happened on one Good Friday.

Additional Notes:
Yes, this is a true story. I have the butterfly in a picture frame. It did happened on Good Friday which is why I deliberately waited until April to publish it on TPL. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. I didn't change the story from the original, although I added one section for this publication. Can anyone guess which one? One hint: I wrote the original about ten years ago. A few years ago I talked via e-mail to someone who raises butterflies. She told me that butterflies are not prone to do what I described. If anyone is interested and wants her web site, let me know. So my fellow poets, once again I submit a poem for you scrutiny although I am more interested in knowing if I conveyed the story in an understandable way, than in the critiquing itself. Happy Easter to all! Richard
