Good Intentions: An AIDS Poem

Just as I make myself safe, the procedures come as quick Octobers, one gently following the other, until, suddenly, I find myself face up in an unmistakable case of what most would describe as love. I do not jerk, and I do not move. I can't seem to know where my family has traveled. I only know they are nowhere near these grand rooms I now inhabit. I think I know everything. I see what is the imagination or silly impersonations of hope growing like new houses from those lonely acres just out of everyone's sight. It must be the good times in America now. After all, we can semi-comfortably hold hands in the appropriate places and kiss goodnight without the safety of street lamps--all while believing we were never comfortable with freedom, that someone called out our names at birth and taped our pitiful mouths shut. God doesn't let us die. We properly create that sentence ourselves. He only makes sure we remember where the vibrations come from that point us out and spit upon the miracle of our flawless complexions. Still, there is sometimes the forgotten boy. It is no wonder he builds a parade and sleeps beside frivolous apparitions. He is quite like me in that we both struggle to reflect on a time when we all can wake from a sleep successfully with some strange intention of life.
