A Moment on the Bayou

I drove over the little bridge that we both drive over at some point in the days of our lives. The sun was offering a watercolor welcome painting itself across the sky, resting for a moment on the bayou's edge. And, my heart knew if you had been with me we would have lingered if only for a moment... watching the sun marking its entrance and warming ourselves in the heat. In the awe of the beauty and the hint of a daydream I reached out my hand to touch you - finding instead an emptiness that echoes deep into my soul knowing  the roads we travel will always take us a distance beyond ourselves as we pass each other in the silence of our need. I closed my eyes (but only for a moment) marking the memory of a day when love came and then rose beyond our reach like the rising of the sun as it travels its own highways.
