Confetti

Slowly, the delicate lace fell through the rusty steps of the fire escape,  disturbing a sarcophagus held together by whispers and empty space. Startled, he let the white powder fall to the ground like a strand of broken pearls- Beauty collapsed in on itself.  Failed origami. Memories also find their way through the railings: hands pushing a sky of falling helicopter seeds, an early snow in November,  rose petals pulled from his mother’s headstone by the icy truth of disintegration. He clasped his hands together, ready to unfold or else in prayer. His face lifted toward a heavy veil of pinks and blues- Magdalenic.   Captured.   On fire.

Additional Notes:
The word "Magdalenic," won't be found in the English dictionary. It is the closest English equivalent to the Spanish adjective "magdalenica." I remember reading the Spanish version in certain works by the Spanish author Ramon Maria Del Valle-Inclan. I remember it loosely associated to Mary Magdalene.
