Daddy's Knee As a little girl I can remember sitting on my Daddy's knee. He looked so big but gentle, smiling down at me. The love I felt for him was shining in my eyes. I wanted to live forever sitting on my Daddy's knee. As a little girl I can remember playing in the yard, Waiting to hear the sound of my Daddy's car. For nothing made me happier than knowing Daddy's home. I wanted to live forever being Daddy's girl. As a teenager I can remember thinking I was grown. Thinking I didn't need Daddy, I could do it on my own. But as soon as trouble found me, where'd yah think I'd run? Straight to my Daddy, I wasn't oh so grown. As a woman I can remember leaving Daddy's home. Raising my own family, truly on my own. But there's been times in my life, what I wanted most of all, was to be that little girl, sitting on her Daddy's knee. I love you Daddy! |
Additional Notes:
I know some of you are going to tear the ending of this poem apart. BUT understand that this was done on purpose. Also in the teenager verse it was written where'd yah on purpose to make it sound more teenagery and to aid in the flow of the song. It was written as a song for my Daddy's 50th Birthday and at the end of the song I slow it down and the ending flows beatifully. I sing it in an Irish Ballard form. He responded by saying "Oh girl you and your old tear jerking songs". I love him more than life itself and wanted him to know that each part of my life he had touched, and not one time in my life had I needed him and he not been there for me. He is my knight in shining armor and I love him deeply. Thank you.
