Thoughts Of Tommy

One Saturday in April, I answered a phone call. The disturbing news I heard, truly saddened all. I was almost speechless; with few words to say. When someone said to me, Tommy's passed away. My heart started to pound and I began to cry. I didn't get another chance, to tell him good-bye. He was full of sparkle and always making fun, Tommy was dearly loved, by each and everyone. We had worked together, twenty-eight fine years, And we laughed 'til our eyes overflowed with tears. He enjoyed the pleasure, of joking anytime he could, Then he'd be a good guy, when he knew he should. He often kept coworkers placed in a red hot seat, The reason, working with him, was anybody's treat. If he was on the assembly line, or on a lift like me, The time sure passed rapidly, wherever he would be. He appeared to be the same, so often with a smile; He could make the workday, very much worthwhile. Sometimes we talked of hobbies, just a few he had, I know he loved to hunt and farming wasn't bad. He would mention Sherry, who was his dearest wife; He also talked about his kids, greatest joys in life. Stacey was the oldest child, with Julie next in line, "Henry" was the only son, born last but that was fine. Loved dearly by a couple, that he called Dad and Mother, Sometimes he'd tell stories of one sibling or another. I know he was enormously proud, of Julie s little girl. The love and joy those two shared, kept him in a whirl. He often bragged of this little one; Sara is her name. He said that she was spoiled and claimed he was to blame. Her picture was displayed, on the dashboard of his truck, And if one tried to take it, that person had bad luck. Tommy truly had lots of friends, everywhere he'd go, If anyone did not like him, it's not someone I know! He was our Modine favorite and country kind of guy,           We shared years of friendship that money couldn’t buy. Our friendship was treasured, since the day he started. He will be remembered, although our lives have parted. He was a fun loving man and a great pleasure to know, I thanked the Lord I knew him and hated to see him go! These are just some memories, that all of us hold dear, 'Cause losing one like him, often one's greatest fear. Prayers are with his family, while their hearts amend, Written in memory of Tommy, by a long time friend! August 27, 1949   April 21, 2001

Additional Notes:
I used quotation marks with Henry, because that is the son's nickname that Tommy used.
