The Innkeeper

The innkeeper of the Mandalay’s long gone, The jonquil blooms in vases so long past; Our borrowed time has ticked by on and on, And normally this kind of love won’t last. The maid, her broom, cannot sweep it away, She’ll refresh the flowers, from fields ago; The bed’s re-made, but the lovers’ warmth stays, My heart’s a fire, not extinguished, I know. If only we could rent that room again, Revisit dreams and places naked shared; In body, not just spirit, we could then, Express the love that soul inn once had bared. In keeping with my heart, I swear ‘tis true, Can’t keep in this desire I have for you.
