Sunward Soar

Let Eagle bid Tortoise                Sunward soar--       As vainly strength speaks             To a broken mind.                Bent on speed         Now passing low, edges            Of a puzzled storm--             Now yields, drifts         Now floats upon the air                       Alone.            Far from the flaming             White circlet's glow         Hovering, still, vibrating              Wings in the wind             Rise toward the star.      In a single wildly wailing note        Vanquishing all the heavens,                  Deadly silence.                    To meditate--         Wondering there, listening                   Still, answers               His children’s will                     For prayer.

Additional Notes:
In honor of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The very first stanza is the only fragment to a poem Coleridge never finished. It has always struck a chord with me, eventually compelling me to complete the thought. I hope I did justice to this fine poet.
