The Whipcord Woman

(Qui sua metitur pondera, ferre potest.)                             --Martial I had to bust down the back door, not so much to get in, but to get away from, a real wild one; this time it was The Whipcord Woman. She kept screaming, "Give it back, you sonuvabitch! Give it back!" but I didn't know what it was that she wanted. I tried to love The Whipcord Woman, but did you ever try to cut a cat's toenails when it didn't want you to? She set up a howl out by the back fence, and love started pounding in my veins. The Whipcord Woman, ever the pragmatist, always used to say, "Whatever one cat can do two can do better."
