Insatiable Greed

Faceless it awakens, its presence felt in minute pores, nauseating the mind, echoing the growl of never-ending want, bent on carving pieces of life, while it struggles: wanting for more than it can hold.  Giddying heights it reaches, only to fall on death defying tactics,  while unsuccessfully placating its desires,  lingering for greatness yet eluding, while it hopes:  wanting for more than it can hold.  Illusions of happiness it still desires, then falls back on promises made within the accepted structure, forcing contentment to rise, enlarging dreams, while fulfillment  remains unfulfilled,  backwards falling yet again, while it waits: wanting for more than it can hold. Desirous of beauty, it ventures forth, sensationalized by expert hands  of surgeons in plastic molds, while craving intellect,  squeezed into almost-filled mind. Wise folks waiting to impart,  thoughts by the bushel, while it bargains: wanting for more than it can hold. Renowned actors, burgeoning sculptors, unscrupulous politicians and scholarly minds -  to all it proclaims its reason for hunger. "Can you give what must be given? If I have to fall, will you responsibly hold what must break, if not nurtured?" Yet, it awakens to its dedication,  for a climb yet higher, while it demands: wanting for more than it can hold. Never appeased, it ponders fate,  remodeling life, carving one more notch, it worries falling by the wayside, trampled by footprints of struggling masses,  skillfully serving those resting on higher grounds, not knowing that completeness now reigns its soul, while it begs: wanting for more than it can hold.
