Raksha's Song

Raksha pads quietly Down the jungle path Watching her cubs, She has marked her day And now it is time to hunt. The demon is on the hunt Bandar-Log beware, The jungle stirs. "She hunts, Beware"  "They whisper, clutching Each other, foolishly capering In the jungle roof, And Cheel wheels on high Anticipating his share. Raksha does not plan To disappoint him. Shere Kahn rumbles His challenge to watchfull eyes. "It is my time, This night is mine. Guard your little frog well." Raksha's tongue curls down Into teeth baring laughter Of the wolven kind. "Mark this well, Oh Wolves, Mark this well! The striped coward Howls in his madness, Thinking he can frighten ME. Flat toothed ones may cower and run But I, Raksha, will strike And kill, as is meet. Fool !" She leaps over his angry Pacing form in mockery. "You do not know me Man killer, but you shall Feel the tooth Of this frog's hands." Still, Shere Kahn paced. This was his night And he knew That Man Feared him.
