My Dog Caramel

My dog Caramel loves to play To skip and run around all day She doesn't like her little dog house She'd rather be outside chasing a mouse As soon as she's outside she's running around And she only stops when she hears a sound When she sees a dog coming she can hardly wait Because if she's lucky this time, she might get a date With paws all set she's ready to run It's a poodle today and it's going to be fun Across the street she makes a great leap Ignoring the cars that go "beep beep" Finally she's there and dances with joy That happens whenever a girl dog meets a boy But the owner's not happy with love in the air There will be no romance between this little pair Caramel is picked up and carried away Maybe she'll find love another day Until she does, she'll have to settle for me Love from a little boy who lets her run free

Additional Notes:
I have submitted this poem on behalf of a co - workers son who is age 9. His name is Conrad Cook. He recently won a poetry competition for his age group in our city. He asks for your help in assessing this poem. Thanks in advance. This may start him off, I hope, towards writing more, and submitting his fine poems to this site.
