Disabled:

What do people think... When they see someone disabled? Some think they are abnormal! When in FACT they are just like any other person. We have feelings, fingers, and toes. Everyone may have a different personality or hair color,  but does that make them abnormal? Or are the only people that are abnormal are the people who are  in a wheelchair or use crutches. It's hard enough for a disabled person to be disabled; but it  makes it worse when others discriminate or push us to the side. Just because we are different. When someone is in a wheelchair wants to play basketball they are told "NO." The reason they are told "NO," is becouse we might get hurt. Although if people think about it the disabled can get hurt just as much as any other person can. What can we the disabled do to make people realize that we have feelings just like everyone else. We have tears and we have fears. We need people who are wiling to care how we feel and think. We don't want to be pushed away and told that our opinions  don't count; because we don't look or think like everyone else. How do they know what we are thinking if they don't listen  or ask us. I wish as a teen whom is disabled that I could get people to understand what it's like. I'm going to do what I can to change society. I don't want any money, I just want understanding! If we could get people to understand us, we as a society would be a better place.                                    Tina M. Arcolano '01
