A Listener's Prayer

Wordsmith, woo me with your wares. Waft words of woe to make me weep. Then croon away my childish cares With lullabyes to make me sleep. Wordsmith, weave me wondrous tales. Send seas of stories without cease Of storm-tossed ships in whipping gales, And epic sagas of war and peace. Hypnotize my soul and senses. Realize my dreams and fears. Rationalize my mind's defenses. Tantalize my waiting ears. Wordsmith, vow ne're to depart. Sing sonnets sweet of life and death. Caress this hapless, humble heart Within your constant rhythmic breath.
