Beyond Hope Beyond Shucks of woe does maze his mind to know the landing of the singing bird beyond the corny row. Dare he speak aloud his wish to peek beyond the stalk, to step the fields he's never felt where other people walk? Sadly so the scarecrow knows his duty has him bound, but still he yearns for freedom beyond his earthly mound to touch the stretches of land that dangle beneath his feet, to feel the soft of satin silk beyond his denim pleat. Year after humble year, he willingly submits to each meager harvest that the crows do permit only to pierce his little stick despite his hope beyond, predestined to live within the field beyond his master's lawn. Tears that flow from painted eyes of the wish-about he may only seem to damp the face, but drown the life that has to be. Now the claws of red winged birds forewarn their cawling jests as they prick beneath the plaid of pride beyond his strawy chest. Alas, he says he wishes, he had never dreamed to know what life was like beyond the stalks of Farmer Hope's corny row for the fowl once scared away with fright in great alarm now whispers taunts into his ear while perched upon his arm. |
