In Memory of Phyllis

Why is it that life seems to treat some people so unfair? Where do you go for answers when you’ve searched and found none there? How did we miss the warnings of the depth of her despair? Did we ever fail to give support or show her we care? These questions punish all of us and haunt us in our dreams. How can we find a peace with this, so needless it all seems? So now we second guess ourselves and mourn what we have lost. We wish that we could turn back time no matter what the cost. Then we could tell her one last time how much we all love her. But time is fleeting, something that you cannot recover. We’ve lost this special person who to us was very dear. I know we’re grateful for the times we had while she was here. Although there is a void that can’t be filled because she’s gone, it’s up to us to somehow find the strength to carry on. And while it will take time I know that time will heal the pain and bring relief because of the good memories that remain. The pages of our lives are things that can’t be rearranged. God grant us all serenity for things that can’t be changed. And for the troubled spirit may you help it to find rest by helping us remember all the ways that we’re still blessed. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, an end to earthly pain. A final last farewell from those of us who still remain. Good-bye Phyllis.  We’ll always love you. Steven M. Chenowith 1-2-00

Additional Notes:
This was a poem in tribute to a very close relative of mine who died recently. She is sorely missed.
