Northern Lights

In a city to the north, On residential streets, Between piled high hills Of plowed blizzard remains, I trod a hard-packed trail. Buffeted by frigid white air,  I long for the cozy comforts, In parlor windows glowing  Frosty color flickers and Mellow, shaded lamplight. I cannot hurry home for My stride is a baby's first unsure, careful toddle. On the slippery slick path, My booted feet are numb. The cold trek is lonely but Burning stars in the black, Felt sky and maple boughs, Quilted with snow twinkles, Help thaw my frozen soul.
