New Hampton,Spring 1998

A heavy silence permeates the drafty old cabin unsettled only by an occasional rumble, gust of a strong April wind, creaking of brittle branches, haunting call of a stray Whippoorwill rotting boughs damp earth dead leaves tiny buds liberated from the cold death grip of snow and ice caricature of a cartoon superhero lies on the matted lawn dampened by the downpour of the night before he appears lost, out of place forgotten by the child who once held him in the warm comfort of a fuzzy blanket protector of truth and justice fallen by the cold reality of nature
