Driving by Woods

Black spindly limbs reached across blue snowdrifts reflecting an eerie glow from the second full moon; an image flashing like a photograph through the driver's window of a car traveling winding roads. My eyes obediently followed the light of halogen beams that pierced the darkness. A warm breeze from the heater fan and the steady rythms from the radio kept me encapsuled in comfort near the threatening cold and loneliness of a winter night in the wilderness. Distanced by modern technology I was whisked through mountain trails on asphalt paths unaware of the struggle of the few remaining creatures in the wild. I was uncompelled to stop by woods for the miles passed quickly. No time to peer up at stars. No beast to wonder at this humans strange idleness. Barely a moment to look ahead to destiny, a flash of planning for a new day yet to begin. Lost in a never-ending cycle of tomorrows.
