Today on the bus

The bus is always a strange ordeal I step up and wait to face those who stare I turn and walk as if they aren't there I sit down and  out of the window I glare My headphones make me unself-conscious you are moving to my music you are all a part of my melody I love every one of you So lovely, so lovely The bad-smelling black man  who carried a drum "played at wrigley for the fans today" "has lots of women friends" "not just a sex thing" "your legs have got me all wriled up" "We need to be friends young lady" "Not some kind o' sex thing" I get off of the bus... walk the last five blocks to my apartment dream of the alcohol dream of the marijuana waiting to comfort me on my way in the door Another day on the bus today.
