Logic and Ice We all have secrets-we hide them as small children hide evidence of a broken vase, grinning, while bleeding palms testify against us Truth is not balm. If I tell you the truth it is only my second of perception. It is better to lie and say "I am not afraid of that sound." Now the noise is gone and there is a fresh reality. It was backfire not a gun, not even thunder. I am embarrassed by my terror but then, we are always ashamed of the wrong things She said she told me her worst secrets and yet I saw her naked, in the heartwood cottage where my lover lay, reading her small back I think their oversight to notice me is not cruel. Really, it is compassionate. It would have been far worse in the reminiscence That shock of flesh through a frosted window is illusion, the wind and the frost are not real - just Manitoba, and thus mythical Ornate, snow covered clocks click aimlessly in distant fields |
