Memories Of The Monolith

Cold and dark like a moonless night It stands in the weeping wind Void of life it names the dead Some would call them men How young they were, so full of hope Ahead... were all their years Now their names lie etched in stone Carved by their loved ones tears How proud they were, baby warriors all They fought with courage and care Just like daddy they carried our flag          Despondent... His heritage they would never share Some came home with empty hearts Others entered death's door           But... As seasons change a time has passed The wind still weeps and calls The tears of the living lost Flow... Gently upon the wall Forgotten baby soldiers, cane's in hand Facing the polished black stone The guilt they bear, promises lost Staring in the black abyss to atone The wall calls in a silent whisper "Come... beyond the echoes of war A place to rest, peace in your heart No cries of guilt and agony anymore" They search the dead upon the wall Black granite glistens an inherited part Looking back reflecting their emptyness It reveals their missing hearts Lifeless and fearfull they walk through life Dead souls... But not on the wall The weeping wind still flows in the night Crying out it's lonely call

Additional Notes:
Ellipsis's used to create a definite pause. This is about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. I speak only for myself, each of my brothers has their own views and message.
