Shadow Play

She entered the room with soft scent of oil and talc. Her nightie, damp and twisted, Mickey and Minnie facing backward. Teddy dangled from her tiny hand. She climbed into bed tucking Teddy tightly into place. Wrapped in blue blanket comfort she waited; soon they would arrive. Nightlight shadows dancing on the walls. She lay in bed watching them, held spellbound. Twisting, turning, morphing, her nightly visitors, silent playmates. Teddy stared blankly from the floor. She weeps at night, her body bruised and battered. Teddy’s eyes hold his reflection. She knows they will return, stealing secrets. Nightlight shadows dancing on the walls.
