On a Teary Night

The velvet night was starry, as we sat eating Calamari, when down the face of my friend so dear, slid a single sweet shimmering tear. Why did the tear roll from her lid? Could she have choked on the squid? Maybe a little transient smoke, or quiet laughter at my joke? And as the tear kissed her lip, I tried to think of another quip, but, maybe she had heard me sing, or caught sight of the engagement ring? What could have caused this glistening jewel? I thought my jokes were really cool. Then in the mirror behind my dear Sarah, on my face, some misplaced Marinara.
