My Daughter, My Self

If you go on a journey, can I go too? It seems that you have packed that bag all day. A piece of childhood, with a mother's smile tied around it. And, crumpled there, a withered page with autographs, A graduation ring with faded engraving, The watch you bought with your first paycheck, A pink, rose-covered book with no copyright, A rusty lock and key--secrets of the heart. And, by the way, who are you? These fancy pants and red boots, they don't look lik you. And the old familiar smile of youth is cracked with young wrinkles, Tracing their way across your forehead, around the corners of your Mouth and eyes where innocence once gleamed. If you go on a journey, should I stay behind? But then I find a piece of sky stirred in a wisp of sun. My journey has also begun, Because with every memory I uncover,  I travel your life's path. If you go on a journey, Far behind, gently, watching,       I follow.
