Neon Love

Florescent pain f L i C k E r E d off and on in my chest, As I gazed at her, the woman upon whom I had so long leaned. She said,  I love you, Jimmy.  And I believed her. Yet, one question remained: If you love me, how could you do that? But the pain had me immobilized:         on         off         on         off         on. My eyes saw more darkness than light and the buzzing sound that accompanied the faulty illumination gave me vertigo. I said, If you love me, how could you do that? My mouth was dry; my hands damp; my soul felt like neon. I wanted to throw my arms skyward and fly through all constraints; fly up and away, out of the shame. So I pleaded, If you love me,                           how could you do that?
