shadows In the dark of the shadows The cold wind and the din I swear I hear human bellows Saying please won’t you let me in You may think I am smart But there is fear in my heart Based on circumstance from long ago Learn by my writing things you may not know Back to the chaos and the noise at my door Biting my nails I find I cannot take much more My heart loves all people fear wont let them in Oh I wish for my old friends Smitty Wilson and Jonesy Flynn I met Smitty in ’69 of Jonesy I knew less And Smitty’s girlfriend Shirley, queen of the skimpy dress We spent our time in Roxbury and Boston’s Back bay My fancy car from Morgan Garages I let Smitty take one day Now Smitty was a good man far beyond reproach Jonesy was his shadow, always sucking on a roach I would love to see either of them with laughter we would roar If I only had the courage to answer my front door |
