Beside the Water

He was burned Before he saw the fire Or felt the heat Or heard the cries. He was hurt Before he had the chance To change his steps To another direction. And I was there  To watch him burn While standing beside The trough of water. I could not move  To put out the flames That made him suffer So much and so long. I won't make excuses I don't want understanding What I did Is not important now. He was the one burned Not you or me So why waste our pity On those who don't need it? And he was dead Long before I could save him If I could save him I still doubt that I could. And the fire is burning And I am still standing Beside the water Watching the flames.
