OH, WILLIE

With thunder rolling in the distance   our unit sat talking in quiet rain. Peaceful silent surroundings made   a 'warless night' seem not in vain. Refreshing though as it might be   in a gentle rain so calm and warm, Silence like this always seemed   like just a 'lull before the storm'. Willie jumped up nervous saying,   "Oh man, I gottsa pee!" Ran over toward some thick bushes   and leaned out against a big tree. A single shot rang out loud   and shattered the tranquil sound. Willie's head split in half,   as he splattered upon the ground. One single round entered his mouth,   it exited the nape of his neck. I've since asked myself so often,   "Oh Willie why in the heck....?" "If only you'd have had to crap   instead of your need'n to pee, you could have squatted anywhere!"   I wonder why you chose that tree?

Additional Notes:
The grapics in this poem are not meant to offend anyone. This writing is only meant to show how fragile life is, and how suddenly it can be stripped away when we least expect it, either by God or the enemy. It is merely a reflection into a moment's thought immediately following such a death! Gottsa & need'n are spelled intentionally, within quotes.
