Striving Man

Hearing a politician speak on a recent Wednesday night Trying to promote a program that just is not right The Nation is secured by our sacred Constitution To keep laws and program free from pollution After a fashion a senator should be a leader Not preying on people, reaching for basest emotions One who reaches for that goal is a bottom feeder Denying regard for truth with jaded selfish notions For his celebrity he tears down established tradition Implying views other than his reflect a bad position Pandering to special interests who tell him what to be If I do not join and interest group, what shall become of me? Like the Bible's Jubilee year of emancipated restoration It is time to close the divide and enact fresh legislation Keeping tradition, removing legal indigestion Know the Congress is for us, to hear citizen suggestion Can any admit we've been disgraced for the world to see Showing division and weakness, giving terrorism glee It is hard to believe that government is for the common good Do not deny the value of unity, though many wish they could Man's work should be excellent, as perfect belongs to God Not twisting positions, distorting permissions, yet sparing the rod Playing outside the rules is tolerated, the rules are not broken Truth belied by the insipid smirk, not needing to be spoken
