"Mom and Dad. . . . . . . What I wish I could tell you. . .now that I am 6 months old" I search your face as you smile; I look deep into that smile searching for your approval of me I listen to your laugh; I search the sound to see if something I've done is it's source I search your eyes, as they sparkle; To see if I am the one who put the sparkles there I search your face, as you frown; Searching for a reason you might be disappointed in me I am surprised at your raised voice; I search to see if it was me, Or something I've done that caused it I search your eyes, as they snap; With anger and disapproval Wondering what I did to put it there I feel you reach out to pick me up; Your touch is warm and comforting As you hold me close in your arms I search your faces, constantly; Trying to read your expressions There are so many different ones But, most of all, Mom and Dad I will forever search your face Looking for your feelings of love © 1990 Donna Friedrichs |
