Only I

My days, sometime, seem so long I sit and wonder where time has gone My tears, how often they flow like wine No peace of mind nor comfort can I find My world, it closes in on me I'm trapped from within, never to be free The darkness surrounds me, drawing all too near Encompassing me with the poignant smell of fear I search for help, as I reach my hand out Why is there no one, have I been forgotten about I pull myself up and brush away the dust It's a lonely world with no one to trust My trials have been many, my mistakes quite a few And more often than not, I know not what to do With time I have learned of one I can truly depend For it is "Only I" who will be there until the end

Additional Notes:
This poem is dedicated to my grandmother who passed away shortly before my 14th birthday. Thank you Mother for having faith in me and instilling a strength which continues to carry me through life. Through poetry.com; I received the Editor's Choice Award for the publication in Don't Look Back, the Editor's Choice Award for the publication in The Voice of Nature, and it was verbally recorded on The Sound of Poetry. I thought this was impressive until I learned about "poetry scams" and "vanity publishing". I look forward to receiving honest critiques of this poem.
