A Riddle From The Middle

Who was it that rocked and sang to me the sweetest lullabies, soothing tearful baby blues into wide, dry, and smiling eyes, thus upon my cheeks smothered kisses to end my sniffled cries?                                             *** Who was it that held me so close and dear with gentle caress, rubbing my back and calming me so that I might rest, and always made me feel as if I, the middle child, were loved the best?                                             *** Who was it that watched on many an endless night over my sleep, praying a host of heavenly angels would safe my keep, thus loved me so much instead of beat the heart would weep?                                             *** Who was it that wet with tears and cloth my feverish head, tending with vigil and echelons of dread my sickest bed, and thought not of their tired bones or sleep instead?                                             *** Who was it that came to rescue me whenever I fell, kissing my knee or other hurt, despite the spot, to make it well, thus if pain dwelled within my heart their soul would wane and wail?                                             *** Who was it that taught on burnt and bent knee my lips to pray, honoring the Lord in all I'd ever chose to think, do, or say, and showed me how to step the path of crooked and narrow way?                                             *** Who was it, this giver of goodness to me, whose love and kindness has never once ceased to be, thus without condition has always loved me just for me?                                             *** Do you need another clue of who and in return I love like no other? Holding my heart more so than my hand, this man speaks of his MOTHER!
