BEND AND STRETCH. REACH FOR THE STARS! The hope filled lassie made a query To a three score graying graceful dearie, For a clue, as to how dreams can come true! Imagining what sweet wisdom might relinquish, Could she twitch her nose, or maybe wink a wish? Or is that something mere mortals can't do? Pried she, "If three wishes you could catch and hold fast until death, Speak them now, tell me quickly, while you're not short of breath?" Spoke Mrs. Silvercoeur, "I will tell you three, and three more hence. Three from naive memory, Then three more from reality's side of the fence. While still young and wistful, I yearned for just this: Kind words, sweet prayers, and a once a day kiss. But fate must have thought me greedy and withdrew her grace. So, I settled for warm showers, a wee cup'o tea, And a tear stained pillow for my face. But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't let malice steal serenity's song. No, I never gave in to bitterness, For love coupled with kindness Can make a blessing, out of a mess, sing! Can turn a mess around, into a blessing found. Set your goals on the stars, my dear, so far out of sight. But, if in time you don't reach them, Then enjoy their sweet twilight!" |
Additional Notes:
The paradox of sacrifice
Reality unfeigned,
Is, for all that is given up
Even more is gained
