Drakes Bay at Noon

Along the white-cliffed shore smooth dark pockets of sea-soaked sand lazily undulate undertoe miniature saltwater lakes hold their mirrors to the the slate-blue sky Neptune's tangled tendrils lie gathered in great golden heaps combed out by the pull of receding tide stoic gulls stand statuesque with yellow-glassed eyes gazing lacey froth lines filigree the rounded necks of sunken stones Nascent storm winds chase the curling crests of breakers. No creatures hide in the tide pools here I have looked and for all the visitors a few hundred yards back settling on the main expanse of bay few footprints have accompanied me or ventured farther up to where I find myself suspended now alone singing silently to this presence of peace as the gently falling mist surrenders itself to the rain.
