Old Woman Lake

Old Woman Lake Old Woman Lake remembers her birthing from tearing of earth by mountains uprising Carved, shaped by glaciers retreating, released a great bowl awaiting the waters to come. Old Woman Lake reflects on her springtime filling herself with the water of life spawning all plants then the animals later breeding their eons of life in her womb. Old Woman Lake felt the heat of the young sun Marveled as mountains danced as they evolved, Listened to loon songs and howlings of grey wolves Under the Moon’s long, slow silvery smiles.  Old Woman Lake, she’s filling her body with land now, she’s tired from birthing her world. Old Woman Lake she still has some fire banked down beneath her from Earth’s molten core. Old Woman Lake, her memory is long, and she knows the Great Winter will come to her soon embrace her thin body, encase her in ice retreat to the North Wind and shape her again. Old Woman Lake, I’m aging besides you body responding to gravity’s pull. I fall, though wanting to be with you always,  obey Mister Winter, lie down near your hold.
