Water Lily

Upon a pond, you may have seen   My rounded leaves of shiny green   And if you've noticed, when I spread   My fragrant flowers on the bed   Of quiet water holding me,   I'm sure that you will soon agree   I am a lovely sight to see.   Quite often white but sometimes pink,   With yellow stamens and I think   This is a happy place to dwell,   Upon the water's gentle swell.   I have great value in the chain   Of nature's food;  my seeds contain   Much starch and protein, just like grain.   I feed a horde of hungry souls,   While passing through my many roles   Of leaf and flower, root and seed   And find the purpose that I need.
