Ode to Osama

-Apologies to Leigh Hunt                 Osama bin Ladin (may his friends decrease)                 Awoke from a deep nightmare of peace,                 And saw, within the spiders in his tent,                 Making it dark, like a spoon with grease                 The Devil, writing in a book of mold                  Exceeding greed had made bin Ladin bold,                 And to the presence in the room he said,                 "What writest thou?"  The vision raised its head,                 And with a shrug that stank of cholera                  Replied, "The names of those who dishonor Allah."                 "And is mine one?" Osama said,  "Nay, not so,"                 Replied the Devil, Osama spoke more low,                 But sober still; and said, "I pray thee, see!                  Write me as one who slays humanity!                  The Devil  wrote, and vanished. The next night                 It came again with a great wakening light,                 And showed the names whom Satan surely blessed                  And lo,  bin Ladin's name lead all the rest!
