J.O. My Neighbor's Chocolate Lab

I took my pen in hand one night  To write,I know not what. What happened next surprised me so, I sought to write the plot! I heard a quiet tapping                                                                                       upon our front screen door. At first I thought I was misstaken  But louder came the rap-impatient, Followed by a whine! I opened up that door, you see, And couldn't believe my eyes! My neighbor's dog had come to call. From his own yard he'd escaped! I got a leash and said,"Good boy!" And walked him right back to the gate! Just then J.O. became aware That somehow he'd been tricked! He looked up at me as if to say, "See if I visit you again, when I come out to play!"

Additional Notes:
My neighbor's dog loves to visit me, he really paws at the door every time he 'escapes' his own yard.
