Kindred

on the top of the world under a symbol I no longer believe in looking out upon the city lights flickering like golden fireflies freeway buzzing with activity of those returning to their loved ones I remember your eyes, half-lidded as you mutter an apology: "So sorry you found out." and I wonder what it is you yearn for so badly why she, with her thinly veiled arrogance of beauty and mouth that never moves is more appealing than my forever tousled hair, wide smile, confident poise why you prefer the girl whose eyes, dripping with loneliness have looked into mine pleading for answers I couldn't give questions about how to regain love from one who has left you for another now I sit in her position fewer answers than before why one who has wrapped themself around you saying there is no better can walk away when you dance though all others are entranced fluidity of expression lack of inhibition why one who used to want to talk all night now cringes at each word you speak are we kindred, she and I then? though she has taken your love from me can I blame her for doing what has been done to her? After all, she is only looking for the answers and if she falls into your arms it will only be because she is tired of feeling this way
